  • Call for PhD proposals

    13 September 2024

    We are inviting proposals for AHRC collaborative doctoral award (CDP) PhDs to commence in autumn 2025. The call is open to prospective supervisors at UK higher education institutions who wish to develop CDP studentship projects that fall under the Museum of the Home's key research priorities:

    1) sensory, spatial, and political dimensions of home,

    2) diverse dwellings and ways of living

    3) democratizing home on display

    The deadline for expressions of interest is Friday 25 October 2024.

  • Call for Papers

    2 July 2024

    We are welcoming abtracts for ‘Reframing Home, Race, Art and Empire, a one-day symposium inspired by Rebecca Solomon’s painting ‘A Young Teacher’.

    The symposium aims to shed light on the life and work of Rebecca Solomon, believed to be the first Jewish woman to become a professional artist in England, as well as the model for the painting, Fanny Eaton, who was born in Jamaica. The symposium will also explore broader themes of colonialism, representation, and the experiences of people of colour in the 1800s.

    New funded PhD opportunities

    Three new PhD studentships, starting in Autumn 2024, will feed into our research hub and become part of the CSH cohort. The studentships are the first of nine AHRC CDP awards, which build on the centre’s strong track record of innovative and collaborative doctoral research.

    CSH co-directors interviewed for podcast

    Our co-directors Alison Blunt and Sonia Solicari spoke to Deneane Row for the podcast ‘The Place You Call Home’.

    Deneane’s podcast delves into the concept of home, asking guests to consider what it means to them, and what they think it might be like in future. Alison and Sonia discussed the partnership between Queen Mary, University of London and the Museum of the Home, exploring how universities can act as anchor institutions.

    AHRC awards funding for nine new PhD studentships

    AHRC has awarded funding for nine new PhD CDP studentships on the topic of ‘Hidden histories of home: domestic stories and displays, 1600 to the present’. The studentships will be embedded within the Museum of the Home and become part of the Centre for Studies of Home cohort.
